income (loss), net of tax, of a business segment that has been discontinued at year-end or will be discontinued shortly after year-end. Income from discontinued operations is a separate line item in the income statement shown between INCOME FROM CONTINUING OPERATIONS and EXTRAORDINARY ITEMS. Note that the loss (gain) on disposal of a segment is a separate line item appearing directly under income from discontinued operations. In a year that includes the measurement date (date on which management is committed to a formal plan of action), the results of discontinued operations are those from the beginning of the year through the measurement date. Note that any income (loss) from operations after the measurement date and before the disposition date is considered part of the gain or loss on disposal. Footnote disclosure related to discontinued operations includes identifying the segment, the disposal date, and manner of disposal.
